OUR SERVICES

Materials in Contact with Drinking Water

Drinking water is the most important foodstuff and must meet the highest standards in terms of both microbiological and chemical quality. Along its long journey from the spring through transmission pipelines, water storage facilities, distribution networks, and finally to water fittings, drinking water comes into contact with a wide variety of materials, including:

  • Plastics and elastomers
  • Metals
  • Cement-based materials

In accordance with European Drinking Water Directive (EU) 2020/2184, the following principles must be ensured:

Materials that come into contact with drinking water must:

  • Not endanger human health, either directly or indirectly
  • Not adversely affect the colour, odour, or taste of the water
  • Not promote the growth of microorganisms
  • Not cause the release of contaminants into drinking water at unacceptable concentrations

Our Services in the Field of Materials in Contact with Drinking Water

Whether plastic pipes, seals, stainless steel or cast iron pipes, water meters, or water storage tanks—inaq offers inspection and testing of materials in accordance with applicable Austrian, German, and already enacted European regulations, including but not limited to:

  • ÖNORM series B 5014 and B 5024
  • Evaluation criteria of the German Environment Agency (UBA) for plastics, organic materials, and metallic materials
  • DVGW W 347 – Hygienic requirements for cement-based materials
  • Commission Implementing Decisions (EU) 2024/368 and 2024/367 implementing Directive (EU) 2020/2184

Screening for Unexpected Substances:

Based on our many years of experience in non-target screening in the field of medical technology, we are able to detect and identify unexpected substances in accordance with EN 15768 as well as using GC–MS fingerprinting methods.

Construction Products

Construction products are primarily used on a permanent basis in buildings and civil engineering structures. Their properties have a significant impact on:

  • the safety and structural stability of buildings
  • fire protection and sound insulation
  • environmental compatibility and energy efficiency

Our Services in the Field of Construction Products

In addition to professional testing services and extensive practical experience, inaq employs specialists who possess both technical qualifications and legal training, particularly in the field of construction products. Our experts have in-depth knowledge of the relevant legal and regulatory frameworks, ranging from technical standards and federal state construction product legislation to the European Construction Products Regulation.

We offer:

  • Testing of construction products and technical expertise
  • Consulting on regulatory and legal matters: Our advisory services are provided by an interdisciplinary team that combines technical and legal expertise in the field of construction products
  • Support with approvals and authorisations: We assist clients with approvals and market access procedures in Austria, Germany, and across Europe

Products for Municipal Water Systems

In municipal water infrastructure, materials, equipment, and components are used to ensure water supply and wastewater disposal in residential and urban areas.

These products must:

  • Comply with specific standards and withstand high mechanical and operational stresses
  • Achieve service lives of more than 50 years, and often well in excess of 100 years

Our experts draw on almost two decades of practical experience and a broad professional network—ranging from universities and industry partners to independent experts—to provide comprehensive support. In addition to testing products used in municipal water infrastructure, we also assist you with approvals, standards compliance, and regulatory requirements.

Products for High-Pressure Applications

Water pipelines in high-alpine or otherwise extreme terrain require specialised expertise:

  • Planning, supply, and installation in challenging environments
  • Management of high operating pressures, such as those encountered in snowmaking pipelines or penstock systems

Our experienced specialists support you in the standards-compliant design, testing, and, where applicable, commissioning of high-pressure systems—in close coordination with selected partners.

Materials – Corrosion Protection and Coating Analysis

Challenges in the Field of Corrosion Protection and Coatings:

  • Issues related to organic and organo-metallic topcoat systems
  • Optimisation of coating crosslinking and selection of the most suitable corrosion protection system

Our Solution:

  • Use of state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation (e.g. GC–MS, UHPLC) for objective evaluation and to support the selection of optimal protection strategies
  • Performance of corrosion investigations and measurements (including protective potential measurements, protective current measurements, and salt spray tests) for failure and damage analysis
